Tip #11
Why Choose Oats
by Dr. John Berardi

If you’re looking to gain mass and have a good carbohydrate tolerance, place a bowl of fiber-rich, low-GI rolled oats along with ½ scoop of vanilla protein powder, frozen mixed berries, pineapple and a small quantity of mixed nuts right next to your omelet. This is a muscle building breakfast that’s hard to beat. I place this bowl right next to my omelet for a breakfast that’s hard to beat.

However, if you tend to hold a lot of body fat, just stick with protein, good fats, and veggies for breakfast. Save the non-fruit and veggie carbs till after exercise only – yes, even oatmeal.

These tips are sponsored by Precision Nutrition – my pick for the best nutrition and supplement resource currently available. Containing system manuals, gourmet cookbook, digital audio/video library, online membership, and more, Precision Nutrition will teach you everything you need to know to get the body you want — guaranteed.

Obesity Issues

It isn’t just exercise that will help with your weight.  You have to be willing to make adjustments to your diet too.  I was reading an article this morning discussing how too many people drink too much soda.  A 20-ounce soft drink – a pretty standard volume these days – contains the equivalent of 17 teaspoons of sugar.

“Sugar-sweetened beverages,’’ Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, wrote in April in The New England Journal of Medicine, “may be the single-largest driver of the obesity epidemic.’’

Team India

You can put this up on the list of “Things you don’t think are going to happen today.”

This morning I get a phone call from a coach from the Jr National India Field Hockey team.  He calls to say they are in town for the Jr National tournament and was wondering if he could bring his team over for to see the facility and workout.

So they came over and got to see and use our facility.  They were impressed by all of the equipment and the size of our facility.  They all seem to have a great time working out and were very focused on their tasks.

It was also great to have a chance to talk about coaching not only from a coach from a different sport but from a different part of the world.

I’ll have to say that I enjoyed the experience and they told me that they enjoyed it as well.

So it was great to meet Team India good luck in the rest of the Tournament!
